About

The Department of Applied Modern Languages (DLMA) was founded in 1991. From its foundation, the fundamental mission has been to offer a multidisciplinary university education with a strong professional and scientific vocation, balancing theoretical knowledge with practical application.

European Standards

A major milestone occurred in 2004 with the adherence to the Applied Modern Languages Charter, which defined the department's core priorities. A unique academic path was established, combining the in-depth study of foreign languages, such as English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish, with a broad range of specialized disciplines including IT, multimedia, economics, marketing, management, and law. To provide an additional advantage in the professional environment, the opportunity to study a third foreign language (Language D) from a beginner level was also introduced.

CIL& RIELMA

The Center for Language Industries (CIL) was established to bridge the gap between academic studies and the language industry by conducting applied research and providing specialized linguistic services. CIL represents the core of the department's scientific and professional activity, offering services in translation, conference interpreting, terminology research, and professional communication

To further promote academic research, the journal Revue Internationale d'Études en Langues Modernes Appliquées (RIELMA - https://rielma.ro/) was launched.

International and Professional Connections

Over the years, the department has expanded through continuous relationships with the professional environment. Robust partnerships have been formed with global companies like Viking, WeLocalize, Alstom, EXL and SDL, as well as local institutions, providing students with essential internships. The academic community is highly internationalized, benefiting from numerous Erasmus mobility agreements and prestigious partnerships with the EMCI consortium and European institutions such as DG LINC and DG SCIC.

Alumni

Students can choose to further their studies through two professional master's programs: the European Master's in Translation and Terminology (METT) and the European Master's in Conference Interpreting (MEIC). Both programs are members of prestigious European networks.

The knowledge gained allows graduates to find well-paid positions in famous multinational companies very quickly. Many alumni are now working for European institutions. They often return to the department for events such as "Career Day" to share success stories and confirm to current students that choosing LMA was an effective decision for the future.
